The Texas State Capitol is the capitol and seat of government of the U.S. state of Texas.  In 1853, the Texas Capitol was completed, only to burn down in The Great Capitol Fire of 1881.  Afterwards, a new capitol was built, and started to take shape in 1888.  In 1983, an electrical fire caused a great amount of fire damage to official chambers, which led to a 10 year restoration project, transforming it into the Texas State Capitol that we know today.  In terms of size, the Texas Capitol has the most square footage of any State Capitol in the United States.  A $75 million underground extension was added to the building, adding over 650,000 square feet.  Located in downtown Austin, Texas, the structure houses the offices and chambers of the Texas Legislature and of the Governor of Texas.  The State of Texas has approximately 63,900 employees and the City of Austin currently has about 15,400 employees.
